In order to provide you with the best service possible, we need to know as much as we can about your financial situation, specifically regarding events that took place during the tax year. Use the checklist below to evaluate your situation and bring the appropriate documents with you to your appointment.

NOTE: IF YOU ARE A NEW CLIENT, BRING YOUR LAST TWO YEAR'S TAX RETURNS. Existing clients do not need to bring previous returns as we have them on file.

Purchase of stocks, bonds, personal
residence, or other real estate
  Purchase documents; closing papers
Inheritance   Will; K-1 from the estate
Trade any property   Date of trade; basis and fair market value of property given up and property received. Qualified intermediary sales agreement or closing papers
Start or end a small business   Formation/termination dates; property contributions or distributions
Lawsuit settlements   Date recieved; reason for settlement; 1099-MISC
Rental property   Income, expenses; new property purchased
Prizes   Form 1099-MISC; value of prizes not included on 1099-MISC
Lottery or gambling winnings   Total amount won (whether or not on W2-G); total losses
Health insurance, medical, dental, or drug expenses   Health insurance premiums: if it is an employer-sponsored plan, know whether it is paid with pretax dollars; totals of other medical, dental, and drug expenses
Health insurance   Pre-taxed
Medical / Charitable miles   16.5¢ / 14¢ mile
State income or property taxes paid   Prior year's income tax return; property tax bills; closing papers from the purchase or sale of any property; letter from the state regarding any change in a prior filled form
Purchase or refinance of home   Closing papers from purchase; Form 1098
Charitable contributions of money, property, or out-of-pocket expenses   Date and type of contributions; mileadge log for charitable work
Job related expenses   Mileage log, travel, or miscellaneous expense amounts for items related to employment
Business miles   50¢ / mile
Educational or student loan interest expenses   Form 1098-T for parents or children; interest record on student loans
Child or disabled spouse care   Name, address, and ID number of day care provider; amount paid to the provider (if provider comes to your home, a W-2 may be required)
DMV Fees   All DMV fees paid for the year.
